Look Forward to Your Child’s First Dental Visit in Athens
Every parent wants to give their child all the advantages in life they can. One of the best things you can do for your child is to get them started early with good dental care. That’s why your child’s first dental visit in Athens is so important. It will set the stage for a lifetime of beautiful, healthy smiles. Here are a few good reasons to schedule this first visit at McRae Family Dental:

The first dental visit for a child is very key because I can't count the times that I've heard an adult say, 'Well, I remember going to the dentist as a child. And my experience was not that good.' You want to set the tone of basically being on their level. You want to sit where they can see you, eye to eye. You want to explain about some of the things that we utilize to take care of them.
Every child is different. We do ask that the parent help prepare them to be comfortable. Whether they do something before bringing them into the dentist or while they're actually in the office. They can reassure the child, but then also we as strangers at that point, we are doing our best to reassure them as well. But hopefully around age two, 18 months to two years old, as a recommended age range. Pretty much all their teeth are in, in most cases. Or if they have almost all of their teeth in, they need to be taken care of and examined. From that point, we start early enough it will save them from having to have some of the procedures that are not as popular with children. And the only thing that we want to be able to have to do for them is clean their teeth and give them fluoride. We don't want to have to have a conversation about, 'Well, there's a cavity right here. It's in between the teeth.'
Also to educate the parents early on so that they know what their role is at home to eliminate some of those things that can cause the child to have these types of traumatic more invasive procedures.

Take Care of Your Child’s Smile With Good Dental Care
Taking your child to the dentist for the first time is one of the many milestones you will cross with them. Our team wants to make it as pleasant and memorable as possible for both of you.
Depending on your child, it may be best to have them join you or a sibling at their appointment for a “happy visit.” We can take a quick look at your little one’s developing teeth and make sure there aren’t any obvious problems like cavities. We’ll check to see how well their teeth are getting clean and can work with you on brushing techniques if needed.
We may be able to go more in depth with your child, but it depends on how well they do with the initial look inside their mouth. As they get older, their appointments will look more like your own, with a complete dental exam and teeth cleaning. Our goal is to give your child the best treatment possible so they can maintain a healthy smile for life.
