Celebrate Dr. McRae’s Historic Career as Your Athens, GA Dentist!

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news about Dr. McRae and his historic career as your Athens, GA dentist!

Dr. Matthew McRae was recently honored by Augusta University’s Dental College of Georgia as one of their most distinguished alumni. The college held a portrait unveiling to honor Dr. McRae and one other dentist, Dr. James L. Orrington, for being the school’s very first African-American graduates back in 1973!

A year after graduating from dental college, Dr. McRae began practicing in Athens after hearing the town only had one Black medical doctor and didn’t yet have a Black dentist.

In the many decades since, he and our team at McRae Family Dental have been providing full-service dentistry for the great people in Athens, GA in three different locations – Baxter Street, Trail Creek, and Epps Bridge. 

We couldn’t be more proud of Dr. McRae for not only being a trailblazer in the study and practice of dentistry in the great state of Georgia, but for continuing to lead by example for our community, volunteering his time and expertise with free dental care days, food drives, and more to help those in need.
